The Andhra Pradesh government is launching WhatsApp-based governance in the country for the first time. It will provide civil services, receive public requests, and offer necessary information. In the first phase, 161 types of civil services will be available, and additional services will be introduced in the next phase. Minister Nara Lokesh will formally launch the initiative on Thursday. The first phase will cover departments such as Endowments, Energy, APSRTC, Revenue, and Municipal Administration.
On Wednesday, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reviewed the project and received a presentation on how citizens can access services via WhatsApp. He stated that this initiative would eliminate the need for people to visit government offices for certificates. He also provided several directives to officials.
Cybersecurity Measures to Be Strengthened
CM Chandrababu emphasized the importance of protecting citizens' data from cyber threats.
- He directed officials to enhance forensic and cybersecurity measures.
- The government had entered into an agreement with Meta on 22nd October last year to provide services through WhatsApp.
- The move is in line with the vision of the government to position Andhra Pradesh as a leader in digital governance.
Official WhatsApp Number for Government Services
Under WhatsApp governance, the government will announce an official WhatsApp number with a verified tag. This account will:
- Send official messages to citizens regarding floods, weather updates, electricity repairs, medical services, agriculture, emergencies, tourism, and infrastructure developments.
- Allow citizens to submit requests and complaints by sending a message. They will receive a link to enter their details and will get a reference number to track their request status.
- Provide information on government welfare schemes, eligibility criteria, and development programs.
- Share details about tourist attractions, enabling users to book tickets, accommodation, and temple darshan slots.
WhatsApp-Based Certificate and Service Access
Citizens will be able to obtain various certificates and services through WhatsApp, including:
- OBC, EWS, income, and no-income certificates.
- Status updates on applications to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF).
- Online payment of electricity bills, property taxes, and trade license applications.
- Land records and certificates from the Revenue Department.
- APSRTC services such as ticket booking, cancellations, journey reminders, tracking, refunds, and feedback.
This digital initiative marks a significant step in making government services more accessible and efficient for the people of Andhra Pradesh.
