UPI Collect Request Feature To End From October 1

NPCI Announcement

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) will de-switch off the Collect Request feature of the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) from October 1.

The NPCI sent a circular to banks, payment system operators, and UPI applications, requesting them to make the necessary changes prior to this date.

Effect on Banks and Apps

Banks and apps such as PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm will have to discontinue providing Collect Request services from October 1.
No collection transactions will be permitted post-cut-off.

Reason for Removal

  • Users do not usually have to input a UPI PIN when they are being credited with money.
  • Scammers have been making people input their PIN by the excuse of getting their money, and money gets withdrawn unintentionally.
  • In 2019, NPCI established a ₹2,000 cap on such pull transactions to curb fraud.
  • Post this cap, fraud cases are still on.
  • NPCI thus resolved to entirely halt the feature.
