Google Storage Full: A Common Issue
The majority of Android users experience storage problems because of the meager 15GB of available Google storage. Google Drive, Google Photos, and Gmail all share this space. Once it's full, even your emails won't reach you anymore. To get more than this, you have to pay for a Google One subscription. But you can optimize your 15GB through these five free tips.
1. Check and Delete Unwanted Files
- Go to Google One Storage Manager.
- Look and see which services are occupying the most space.
- Google Photos usually uses the most space.
- Delete:
- Useless videos
- Blurred photographs
- Duplicate photos
- Screenshots
2. Compress Photos using Storage Saver
- Utilize the Storage Saver feature when uploading photos to Google Photos.
- This setting reduces image quality somewhat but saves plenty of space.
- To compress uploaded photos:
- Go to photos.google.com.
- Sign in via your email.
- Go to settings > choose Recover Storage.
- Click Compress existing photos and videos.
- Note: You can't retrieve original quality after compression.
3. Export and Delete Files Using Google Takeout
- Visit takeout.google.com.
- Sign in and uncheck all services except Google Photos.
- Select:
- File format
- Delivery method (email link, Drive, Dropbox)
- Click Create Export.
- Download zip file after export is ready.
- Delete files from Google Photos after saving elsewhere.
4. Use Cloud Storage from Telecom Providers
- Jio provides up to 50GB free on certain plans.
- Airtel offers 100GB free for 6 months (in association with Google).
- Then a subscription charge comes into effect.
- These plans assist in saving big and significant files.
- Utilize a laptop or desktop for convenient backup and restore.
5. Change to Another Email ID
- Set up a second Google account.
- Employ it to backup your photos and videos.
- Use your primary email only for essential uses.
- This prevents loading one account.
Additional Storage Tips
- Back up only the camera folder in Google Photos.
- Do not sync unnecessary folders.
- Delete unnecessary files frequently rather than waiting for the storage to be full.
- If you capture a lot of photos, manually select what to back up.
- Save your valuable documents in DigiLocker, not in Google Drive.
